God The Captain of my Ship
MONDAY MORNING DEVOTIONAL | OCTOBER 26, 2026
God Is the Captain of My Ship
Scripture: Psalm 107:29–30 (KJV)
“He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still. Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven.”
Life is much like a ship sailing across the ocean. Some days, the waters are peaceful, the skies are clear, and everything seems to be moving in the right direction. Other days, storms arise without warning, the winds become strong, and the waves seem determined to push us off course.
But here is something we must remember: When God is the Captain of your ship, the storm does not determine your destination.
Too often, we exhaust ourselves trying to control everything around us. We want to know what tomorrow holds, how every situation will work out, and when the storms of life will finally pass.
But God never asked us to captain the ship. He asked us to trust Him.
In Mark 4:35–41, Jesus and His disciples were crossing the sea when a great storm arose. The disciples became afraid because the waves were filling the boat. Yet Jesus was asleep in the stern.
Think about that for a moment.
The disciples were panicking over something Jesus was resting through.
Why? Because Jesus knew that the storm had no authority to cancel what He had already spoken.
He had said, “Let us pass over unto the other side.”
His Word had already established their destination.
There will be seasons when your finances face uncertainty, your family encounters challenges, your ministry experiences resistance, or your business seems to be navigating unfamiliar waters.
But none of those circumstances changes who is in charge.
When God is directing your life, you do not have to understand every turn. You simply need to remain faithful, obedient, and sensitive to His direction.
Sometimes He will calm the storm around you. Other times, He will give you supernatural peace while you sail through it.
The safest place is not necessarily a ship without storms. It is a ship where Jesus is present and His Word is guiding the journey.
So today, take your hands off the things you were never meant to control. Stop allowing fear, uncertainty, and outside voices to determine your direction.
Let the Holy Spirit guide you. Let the Word of God be your compass. Let faith anchor your soul.
And remember, God sees beyond the horizon. He knows where you are, what lies ahead, and exactly how to bring you through.
You may not know every detail of the journey, but you can trust the One who knows the destination.
Today's Encouragement
You are not drifting through life without direction. God has a purpose for your journey. The winds may change, the waves may rise, and the journey may take unexpected turns, but the Captain has not abandoned His ship.
Stay on board. Keep your faith. Follow His direction.
If God is the Captain of your ship, you can trust Him to bring you safely to the other side.
### Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for being the Captain of my life. Today, I surrender my plans, my concerns, my family, my ministry, my business, and my future into Your hands.
Forgive me for the times I have tried to take control instead of trusting Your direction. Teach me to recognize Your voice above the noise of life's storms.
When the winds rise, strengthen my faith. When the waters become troubled, establish Your peace within me. When I cannot see the way forward, remind me that You already know the destination.
Holy Spirit, lead me with wisdom, guide my decisions, and keep my heart anchored in the promises of Your Word.
I declare that no storm will cause me to abandon the purpose You have established for my life.
In Jesus' mighty name, Amen.
Final Thought: I may not control the wind or the waves, but I know the One who commands them. God is the Captain of my ship, and I trust Him with the journey.
