Today’s Theme: Seek God Before You Make the Move

Proverbs 3:5–6 — “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

Every leader needs a strategy.

We plan.

We organize.

We analyze the situation.

We evaluate resources.

We consider timing and calculate the next move.

But there is a level of strategy that human intelligence alone cannot produce.

It comes from God.

God sees what we cannot see.

He knows what is ahead before we arrive there. He knows which opportunities are genuine and which ones are distractions. He knows which relationships will strengthen the assignment and which ones may pull us away from it.

That is why one of the greatest leadership disciplines we can develop is learning to consult God before we make the decision.

David demonstrated this repeatedly.

Before going into battle, David would ask God, “Shall I go up?”

David understood something every leader must understand: just because you have the ability to move does not mean it is the right time to move.

Sometimes God says go.

Sometimes God says wait.

Sometimes God says change direction.

And sometimes God gives a strategy that makes absolutely no sense according to conventional wisdom—but produces extraordinary results because the strategy came from Him.

God does not merely want to bless our plans.

He wants to participate in creating them.

Before the meeting, ask Him.

Before signing the agreement, ask Him.

Before starting the project, ask Him.

Before ending the relationship, ask Him.

Before investing the money, ask Him.

Before making the announcement, ask Him.

Before making the next major move, ask Him.

Prayer should not be the emergency button we press after our strategy fails.

Prayer should be where the strategy begins.

When God becomes our Strategy Adviser, we stop depending exclusively on what we know and begin operating from what He knows.

There may be circumstances in front of you today where you do not have all the answers.

That is all right.

You do not need to know everything when you know the One who does.

Ask for wisdom.

Listen carefully.

Watch for His direction.

Then when He gives the instruction, have the courage to follow it.

The best strategy is not always the most obvious strategy.

The best strategy is the one God gives.

Trust in the Lord rather than depending solely upon your own understanding.

“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God…”

“Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.”

“I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go…”

“This is the way, walk ye in it.”

David inquired of the Lord before going into battle.

“There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand.”

God reminds us that His thoughts and ways are higher than ours.

Leadership Thought

Do not ask God to bless a strategy you never invited Him to help create.

Bring Him into the planning room.

Bring Him into the budget.

Bring Him into the conversation.

Bring Him into the decision.

Bring Him into the timing.

God already sees the outcome you are trying to predict.

Prayer

Father, thank You for being more than my Provider, Protector, and Healer. Thank You for being my Counselor, my Source of wisdom, and my Strategy Adviser.

Today I acknowledge that Your understanding is greater than mine.

Give me wisdom for every decision before me. Help me recognize the doors You are opening and give me discernment concerning the doors I should not enter.

Show me when to move, when to wait, when to speak, and when to remain silent.

Protect me from making decisions based only on pressure, emotion, fear, or opportunity. Teach me to seek Your counsel first.

Give me clarity where there has been confusion, direction where there has been uncertainty, and courage where obedience requires faith.

I commit my plans, leadership, ministry, business, relationships, resources, and future into Your hands.

Order my steps.

Direct my path.

And let every strategy I pursue align with Your purpose for my life.

I trust You with what I can see, and I trust You with what I cannot see.
