Obedient to the Call

Today’s Theme: The Obedience of Christ Is Our Example

Philippians 2:8 — “And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”

The Greatest Example of Obedience

Jesus Christ gave us the greatest example of obedience the world has ever known.

He did not simply speak about obedience. He demonstrated it.

Jesus knew the suffering that awaited Him. He knew the rejection, the betrayal, the scourging, the humiliation, and ultimately the cross were before Him. Yet He willingly submitted Himself to the will of the Father.

His obedience became the doorway to our salvation.

Because Christ obeyed, the price for sin was paid. Because He went to the cross, we were given access to forgiveness, redemption, reconciliation, and eternal life.

Christ Is Still Interceding for Us

And His work did not end at the tomb.

Jesus rose from the dead, ascended into heaven, and now sits at the right hand of the Father, where He continues to intercede for us.

Romans 8:34 reminds us that Christ is even now making intercession on our behalf.

That should change the way we live.

If Jesus was willing to surrender completely to the Father’s purpose, then our lives should also reflect obedience to God’s calling.

Obedience Is Surrender

Obedience is not merely following rules.

Obedience is saying, “Lord, my life belongs to You.”

It means allowing the Holy Spirit to direct our attitudes, decisions, relationships, leadership, ministry, and daily conduct.

Scripture tells us that we are ambassadors for Christ.

An ambassador represents someone greater than themselves.

When people encounter us, they should experience something of the character of the One we represent.

They should see His love.

They should see His grace.

They should see His compassion.

They should see His integrity.

They should see His patience.

And they should see a life surrendered to the Spirit of God.

Not My Will, but Yours

We will not always understand everything God asks us to do.

Jesus Himself prayed in the garden, “Not my will, but thine, be done.”

That is the heart of obedience.

Our calling is fulfilled when our will becomes surrendered to His will.

God has placed each of us here for a purpose. There are people we are called to reach, assignments we are called to complete, and lives we are called to influence.

But purpose requires obedience.

We cannot fully walk in the calling of God while continually resisting the direction of God.

We Are His Ambassadors

Today, let the obedience of Christ challenge us.

Let His sacrifice remind us that our lives are no longer our own.

And let us determine that wherever God sends us, whatever He asks of us, and whoever He places before us, we will represent Jesus faithfully.

We are His ambassadors.

We are His witnesses.

We are carriers of His Spirit.

And through our obedience, the world can see Christ living through us.

“Nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.”

Jesus endured the cross and is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

Christ is at the right hand of God making intercession for us.

“Now then we are ambassadors for Christ.”

6. John 14:15

“If ye love me, keep my commandments.”

7. Galatians 5:25

“If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”

8. Ephesians 2:10

We are created in Christ Jesus unto good works which God has prepared for us to walk in.

Morning Prayer

Father, we thank You this morning for the obedience of Jesus Christ.

Thank You that He willingly came to this earth, humbled Himself, surrendered to Your will, and became obedient even unto death on the cross.

Thank You for the blood that was shed for our sins.

Thank You for forgiveness, redemption, salvation, and eternal life through Jesus Christ.

And thank You that Jesus rose again and now sits at Your right hand, continually interceding for us.

Lord, teach us to walk in that same spirit of obedience.

Remove anything within us that resists Your direction.

Help us to surrender our plans, our desires, our ambitions, and our decisions completely to You.

Holy Spirit, lead us today.

Let our words represent Jesus.

Let our actions represent Jesus.

Let our leadership represent Jesus.

Let our compassion, integrity, patience, and love reveal Jesus to everyone we encounter.

Remind us that we are ambassadors of Christ wherever we go.

Give us courage to obey when obedience is uncomfortable.

Give us faith to obey when we cannot see the outcome.

Give us humility to say as Jesus did, “Not my will, but Yours be done.”

Father, help us fulfill every assignment and every calling You have placed upon our lives.

May we walk in Your Spirit, demonstrate Your love, advance Your Kingdom, and leave behind a testimony that points others toward Christ.

We surrender ourselves again to You today.

Use our lives for Your glory.

In the mighty name of Jesus Christ,
